The Sail Northland holiday programme has been a thrilling success so far, with young sailors making the most of the summer weather and the stunning Northland coastline. From exciting water adventures to friendly races and plenty of laughs, the holiday programme has brought together a community of budding sailors for a holiday season full of fun and unforgettable memories.
The group has set sail on a number of amazing trips to some of Northland’s best-loved spots, including the serene Nook Beach and the tranquil Motukiore Island. These iconic locations have provided the perfect backdrop for the sailors to hone their skills while soaking in the natural beauty of the region.
One of the standout features of the programme so far has been the emphasis on making learning fun. It’s not all about mastering knots and navigation — there’s plenty of time for playful antics as well! On the way to Nook Beach, the sailors broke the routine with an epic water fight. Armed with water guns, they soaked each other and their instructors, adding an extra splash of fun to the day’s adventures. It’s safe to say that no one stayed dry!
But the excitement didn’t stop there. The sailors also took part in a competitive challenge: a race to collect floating balls scattered along the water. Teams raced against each other to collect as many floating balls as they could. This high-energy challenge was not only a great way to encourage teamwork but also tested the sailors’ ability to manoeuvre their boats under pressure.
