Kōkōkaha Programme at Parua Bay

Kōkōkaha is an integrated unit of work that focuses on the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) associated with harnessing the wind. Kōkōkaha's learning experiences are designed for students in years 5 through to 10 and are intended to provide them with the skills and knowledge to design their own technologies to harness the power of the wind. Kōkōkaha learning experiences can easily be adapted for older or younger children. Kōkōkaha is available to schools and kura throughout New Zealand.

Kōkōkaha includes classroom and sailing learning experiences. Classroom experiences include hands-on activities to help your students learn about the power of the wind. Sailing experiences include going sailing to feel the power of the wind and interacting with a set of resources to understand how sailing technologies work. Learners use the skills and knowledge they acquire to design a technology to harness the power of the wind.

You can register for this with us and Yachting New Zealand and follow the link https://www.kokokaha-yachting.nz/ to find out more.

$500 + GST per day for up to 20 children (Thursdays 10 am-2 pm) $20 per extra participant.

Please Note: Kōkōkaha Programme at One Tree Point cost $600 + GST (to cover extra costs of travel etc)

Please Note: We divide the class into three groups for the day - 18 is a perfect number, 24 okay. (We can manage a larger group if necessary- but we just like to give the best sailing experience we can so less numbers equals more sailing!)

The Trust will provide:

  • A qualified coach

  • Lifejackets

  • Boats - Our fleet consists of 12 x Optimists, 2 x RS Quest and 4 x RS Feva.  This provides a range of boats for different experiences.

  • Safety patrol boats

  • Clubrooms with toilets, etc

We would like the School to provide:

  • Kids!  20-25 max. per day

  • Teacher/ person in charge

  • 3-4 able adults to help out.  This to help with sign in/off, on the patrol boats, getting the boats in/out of the water and generally helping with the kids.

If you were able to apply now for Pub Charity or Oxford Sports Trust funding for term 4, then the kids could potentially go sailing for FREE!!

Please give us a call if you have slightly different requirements. We may be able to help. We look forward to hearing from you and getting your kids out on the water having fun!
